The Law Office of David H. Rosenberg, P.C. (“Firm”), filed a verified complaint of sex discrimination and retaliation on behalf of a male maintenance worker (“Complainant”) against RCI Industries, Inc. (“RCI”) and Peter T. Imbert (“Imbert”), the former mayor of Amityville, with The New York State Division of Human Rights.
As alleged in the verified complaint, Complainant commenced employment with RCI on January 20, 2006.
Despite being employed as a maintenance worker for RCI, Complainant was typically instructed to report to Imbert’s adjoining residential properties in Amityville and be his personal confidant from early morning to late evening hours.
As reported by Chris Harris (“Harris”) in The New York Post:
Imbert “summoned” [Complainant] to his home daily to “play pool and get stoned;” told him to shoot geese on the property; watch his bikini-clad teens play in the pool; and “break glass, purchase anti-freeze and cat food so that Imbert could ‘feed it to the stray cats,’” [Complainant], 39, alleged in the complaint.
Imbert, a registered Republican, also had a secret room filled with “illegal weaponry,” including AK-47s and AR-15s, [Complainant] contended in the New York State Division of Human Rights filing.
As reported by James Gordon in The Daily Mail:
The lawsuit paints a picture of a workplace ruled by fear and intimidation, with Imbert allegedly using his position of power to manipulate and degrade his employees.
Among the more unusual instructions [Complainant] claims to have been forced to undertake was to ‘break glass, purchase anti-freeze and cat food’ so Imbert could poison stray cats in the area.
Harris also reported:
He also allegedly had to keep Imbert’s home and pool house stocked with vape pens, beer, bottled water, and essentials, like shampoo and toilet tissue; take Imbert’s cars in for service and shovel snow.
Due to the severe hostility that Complainant was subjected to, the Firm is seeking maximum fines, penalties, and punitive damages from the Division against the Respondents.
